Nice Gizmo (Wiimote Hack)

A colleague sent me this and I thought I’d share it with you. It’s the best Wiimote hack that I’ve seen so far and gives a Microsoft Surface environment on your T.V. without having to touch the screen. This makes it more ‘enabling’ in my opinion as the controlling points can be placed anywhere and therefore don’t rely simply on finger dexterity (necessarily).
In any case it looks like fun, I’m not sure if it will catch on. There’s a debate raging around about how tiring such devices might be to use in most circumstances for everyday tasks so they might be for specialist purposes (e.g. minority report style browsing and identification). There’s another argument that says that mouses have had their day and that the mouse is actually a very limiting tool for most people.
Back in the 90’s (the good old days?!?) I used to use a graphics tablet on my Mac and once I got used to it I loved it, I also used voice recognition too and the combination worked very well for me. Twelve years on and actually things aren’t that much different but I have a feeling that these hacks and hard technology mashups will produce some fab ways of interacting.
